Chital - The Indian Deer
Chital Chital (aka Spotted Deer or Axis Deer) is a species of deer that is commonly found in India. Chitals are usually 90 cm tall and weigh up to 85 kg (187 Pounds). Its upper parts are reddish fawn covered with white spots and the under parts are white in color. They have a life span of around 20-30 years. Antlers are present in males only that may exceed up to 75 cm. They shed them annually. Each of the antlers has three lines on it. The brow tine (the first division in the antler) is roughly perpendicular to the beam (the central stalk of the antler). The antlers, three-pronged, are nearly 1 metre (3.3 ft) long. Chital mainly feeds on grasses and browsed vegetation. They also feed on wheat, fruits, herbs, flowers and leaves. They usually feed for four hours after sunrise and for two hours before sunset. ...
